In a recent research paper, the connection between death and obesity was re-examined. The article “The Impact of Obesity on US Mortality Levels” was published in the American Journal of Public Health this past April. The reason behind the research was to determine whether being overweight was associated with an increased risk of death among people in the United States. The researchers believed that there was a strong selection bias in previous studies and a failure to account for the different ways in which obesity can harm health.
Interesting facts revealed included the average obesity prevalence was
- 21.4% for black and white men
- 43% for black women
- 23% for white women
The estimated percentage of deaths associated with being overweight was:
- 5% for black men
- 15.6% for white men
- 26.8 for black women
- 21.7% for white women
Dr. Ryan Masters, the lead author of the study stated “Obesity has dramatically worse health consequences than some recent reports have led us to believe. We expect that obesity will be responsible for an increasing share of deaths in the US and perhaps even lead to declines in US life expectancy.”
Being overweight can damage many parts of the body including the heart, lungs and the brain.
What are you going to do about it?
We are here to help with our Shape up and Slim Down in September programs.
First we have our Ideal Protein Program. I think this program is the best way to lose weight quickly and easily. I am going to do a tune up program myself. I got off my workout routing with my crazy spring and summer work and baseball schedule and gained a few pounds. I am going to do a 12 pound program after Labor day. Start with me and we will cheer each other on. A great way to start the program is our How to Make Your Body a Fat Burning Machine introductory workshop. The schedule is on the link in this paragraph. In our office we will be offering our Ideal Protein Program with a special $40 credit for new participants in September if you mention this article. Contact Kimberly who coordinates the program at the office.
